Q. Should I choose the copy masters (black line
masters) or the workbooks?
A. It depends on your needs. When you buy workbooks each student gets
one. The workbook (all workbooks have over 120 pages) becomes the
cultural component for the whole year. If you choose the copy masters
(20 or 24 pages each) you make photocopies of the units you would like
to cover and hand those out to the students. Thus, if you only want to
do a unit on Machu Picchu, you are better off getting just the
individual copy master that deals with that subject. If you want your
students to work with cultural units for the entire year, you should
choose the workbooks.
Q. What is the difference between the materials
printed in workbook format and those in copy master format?
A. None. They are identical. Each workbook encompasses 7 copy masters
of a given level. The only difference is that the pictures are lighter
in the copy masters so that when you photocopy them, they will show up
better.
Q. Why are the workbooks sold only in class sets
(15 workbooks minimum)?
A. When we first published the material, we only printed workbooks.
Many teachers bought one workbook and photocopied the units they
wanted. Some teachers, who received complementary copies of our
workbooks, then photocopied entire units for their students. This is
both unprofessional and illegal. By selling the workbooks in class sets
only, we are assured that teachers are not breaking copyright law.
Q. What does the law say about reproducing the
workbooks?
A. Copyright law prohibits all photocopies of our workbooks. Since the
identical material is available in black line master format, we urge
teachers who plan to reproduce the materials to purchase the copy
masters. We will take legal action against those who break copyright
law.
Q. Why are the copy masters more expensive than the
workbooks?
A. When we sell you a copy master, we are also selling you the
permission to reproduce, thus waiving our copyright. We have paid for
many of the images and received permission to reproduce poems and
photographs, all on your behalf.
Q. What do I do if I don't have enough funds to buy
the workbooks for every one of my students?
A. Purchase the copy masters, photocopy, collate and distribute the
materials. |
